Spazztet News
Welcome to Spazz World!
Spazztet is a Jazz group featuring Aaron
Weistrop on guitar, Linwood Ma on trumpet, George Langford on bass and Joe Adamik on drums. The group formed in March of 1997. In the last 5 years Spazztet has released 2 CDs to critical acclaim, won a Grant and performed at some of the world's top music venues. Where will they be next?... click here to find out.
OK... that's about as professional sounding as this page is going to get.
If you want more of that.. check out the bio..
or.. browse on! Watch out for a random sound file, the abrupt change from
third person to first and back, and links that you won't find on any of
our other pages.
What's New?
Big plans...
A lot has changed since the site was last updated. After 5 years of musical collaboration, Zach Brock was replaced by trumpeter Linwood Ma (not pictured). Zach is doing really well with his band Coffee Achievers. You can follow his career at zachbrock.com.
After the break up Spazztet played few, but very well received gigs. Spazztet will be returning to playing in the Chicago area more regularly with an appearance at Martyrs'. This will be Spazztet's first appearance on the Martyrs' stage since late 2002!!
Joe Adamik will be on tour with Califone so the amazing Gerald Dowd will be stepping in. Gerald is the drummer on Spazztet's "Silent Films" CD and has recently recorded with the group on a demo. It should be an awesome evening of music. The set will feature new arrangements, new songs and some of our classics. If you have never heard Spazztet with Woody Ma on trumpet you are in for a real treat! Thank you to everyone who has been demanding to see the band. It means a lot to know that the Spazztet can't just disappear for awhile without being missed.
T-SHIRTS T-SHIRTS T-SHIRTS T-SHIRTS
The T-shirts have arrived and they look awesome. You can win Spazztet T-shirts
by entering the lyric writing contest. So what are you waiting for?!?!?!?
And as much as we would like you to own our CDs, we won't fault you if you
write lyrics to one of our songs that you downloaded
off our website. For more information on the contest, scroll down 2 paragraphs
and some change. You can also get a T-Shirt the old fashion way. You can
buy one at Spazztet shows. We have S M L and XL sizes in blue and black.
"Silent Films" has been receiving some very
nice reviews. Check 'em out!
Spazztet's latest CD, Silent Films, is still available.
Do you want to buy it right
now? Do you already own it and want to post
a review? Would you like to hear
a full MP3s of songs off the CD and live performances? Spazztet's first
CD, "Beautiful Impatience,"
is also available. Click here
to check out soundclips or purchase it.
If you have checked out Amazon.com you might notice that "Silent Films"
is a little bit pricey. Believe me... although we think our music is worthy
(valuable even) Spazztet does not believe that any single domestic CD should
sell for $16.99. It's just not what we are about. Yet... that's how much
it costs over at Amazon and that is our fault.. sort of. So this is an apology..
kind of. But we want you to know that there is another easy, cheaper option.
This.
We have some photos from Kaldi's and the studio
up.

In defense of Spazztet
There have been complaints about our name. For those of you who have a problem
with it I would like to make the following points:
1. Look up "Spazz" in the dictionary. You won't find it. 2. Under
"spasm" in Webster's Dictionary the second definition is "
a sudden violent and temporary effort or emotion <a spasm of creativity>"
Spastic is "of, relating to, or characterized by spasm." Notice
how Webster's tied spasm to creativity. 3. "Spas" means fun in
German. 4. Calling someone a spaz is kind of like calling someone a nerd
in this day and age. It can be a compliment. 5. Jazz.... Spazz..... Get
it? 6. One of the other options was "Jazz Babies" 7. If you came
to a Spazztet rehearsal you would have no doubts about the name. There is
a lot of "sudden violent and temporary effort or emotion" going
on. 8. You won't forget our name any time soon. 9. As a group we want to
people to know that there is always more than one way to see things.
Hey... did Spazztet create this
website themselves?
Why?... Do you like it? Ok.. we did it. But it could not have been done
without the help of many people. Valerie Archambeau made the background
of this page using Dan Roger's artwork from the CD. Justin Planasch took
the pictures of the band. Andrea Koran created our logo. David
Chelimsky helped us get the ball rolling. Without their help the web
page would merely be text with really boring backgrounds.
Questions...?
Send us an E-mail. We might not
have all the answers.. but we must have at least some of them. Also you
can check out our FAQ page. If you wanted to know
whether Zach could sing and write lyrics to Wayne Shorter tunes or not..
click here. Oh.... one more thing.. Please...
Please... no questions about a train leaving L.A. and a train leaving Boston
and at what point they intersect. Keep all your math questions very basic.
